Sarah Nicolau

Psychotherapy & Social Work

Hi, I’m so glad you made it here. My name is Sarah, my pronouns are she/her and I am a therapist living and working here on Treaty 1 territory. I have extensive experience working with trauma, grief/loss, end-of-life, neurodiversity, navigating uncertainty and the impact of oppression on mental health. I believe therapy should be collaborative, anti-oppressive and rooted in a trusting relationship. Therapy is a tool for healing, learning about yourself and building tools for managing the tough stuff life can throw at us.

I have completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Psychology and a Masters of Social Work. This has left me with a balanced understanding of both neuroscience and the impact of injustice in our lives. I believe we can tackle mental health concerns with both science and human connection. I have completed extended training in EMDR, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, mindfulness-based therapies, Therapeutic Expressive Writing, bereavement counselling, Emotion-Focused and Solution-Focused Therapies. I have a passion for staying up-to-date with the most current, relevant research on mental health, neurodiversity and the impact traumatic experiences on our bodies and lives. Therapy should be accessible to all brains. I work hard to find relevant adaptations to mental health models based on each person’s circumstance and neurology.

Finding a therapist that feels right for you is important. Please feel free to learn more about me by sending me an email. I’d be happy to offer a free 15-20 minute consultation to explore if I am the right fit for you. If not, I’ll always try to help refer you to someone who might be.
